“Sometimes the people around you won't understand your journey. They don't need to, it's not for them.”―
Deciding what to do with your life can be VERY overwhelming. We may feel lost or even confused. We have parents that we want to impress and siblings that we want to set an example for. With social media platforms being so big as they are today, anyone at any age can be successful now. Feeling like we don't have it all together by the ages of 25-28, can make you feel as if you are an absolute failure. I will admit that I have been there. At one point, I was comparing my life to someone else's without taking into account that their journey may not be the same as mine. I caught myself and said, "Karis, God did not ask you to be that person. He created you to be YOU." I started reading different passages and watched different inspiring videos and created my own list to life. (My fave inspirational video, click here) Continue reading below to take a look at the life advice that worked for me.
1. Create an environment that suits you best.
Put yourself in an environment that will allow you to prosper and strive. If you stay in an environment that shrouds you from growing within, then it is not the right environment for you. There are always going to be other options.
2. Do what YOU love.
Do something that makes you happy. Do not do pursue anything because you think it will impress your parents or friends. Although it may, it won't make you happy. Do not just settle for any job that just pays the bills and allows you to do what you really love on the side. You will not feel happy and you will lose motivation. You will wake up in the morning saying, "Ugh, I don't want to go to work." Down the line, you will look back with regret wishing that would have done that one thing that you love. The only person that is stopping you is YOU.
3. Choose your friends wisely.
You are the company you keep. The people that you choose to associate yourself with, are a reflection of you. If you have a friend that is lazy and brushes tasks off, you will become lazy. If you have a friend that doesn't have a drive for success, you will lose motivation. You will come across people that will be envious and jealous of you and your success and they will try to knock you down. Stay away from them. Focus on YOU and your goals because that person is not doing anything to better your life so do not let them take you off course.
4. People will talk about you. So what.
“Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”―
In life people will talk about you. They will call you a nerd or laugh at you for studying too hard. They will laugh at you for you actually doing your work. They may say you're kissing the boss's butt because you offered to help your boss with some of their tasks. Who cares what other people have to say about you? Do they have any worth to you? Are you benefiting from them? Are they signing your checks? NO. So what does it matter? If it isn't going to affect you in 10 years, do not spend 1-minute dwelling on it.
5. Ask yourself the 3 Q's.
Before you make any decisions, or start any work or tasks ask yourself three questions:
- Why am I doing this?
- What will be the result of me doing this?
- Will I be successful from doing this?
